Education and Human Services Graduate Open House 10/20  

The College of Education and Human Services will host an in-person Graduate Open House on October 20, 2022. 

Seton Hall University's College of Education and Human Services offers a broad spectrum of top-tier graduate programs that prepare students for rewarding careers as teachers, education administrators, school psychologists, community and school counselors and law enforcement leaders. 

On Thursday, October 20 at 6 p.m., the College will host an in-person Graduate Open House in collaboration with the College of Communication and the Arts. The program will be held in Jubilee Hall on Seton Hall's main campus in South Orange, New Jersey, 400 South Orange Avenue.  

Students who are considering graduate school can take advantage of this opportunity to visit campus and connect with the University's distinguished faculty, meet students and alumni, ask questions about tuition and financial aid, and learn about the College's professionally-inspired, socially-conscious masters, doctoral and certificate programs. New this year, representatives from the College of Communication and the Arts will be on hand to introduce their graduate programs in Communication and Museum Professions. With over 20 master's, doctoral and certificate programs to choose from, students become part of a dedicated group of professionals who are also Seton Hall graduate students, working to achieve their education goals and advance their careers.

The College's alumni form an active network of educators and mental health practitioners who are leading in school districts and communities throughout New Jersey and around the country. Their academic and professional experiences give them the skills and confidence needed to reach their career goals and make a difference as guidance counselors, applied behavior analysts, school librarians, principals, superintendents, law enforcement leaders and through many other roles. 

"Our graduate students focus on becoming educators and practitioners in service to others. Their drive to do more inspires our faculty to offer the most advanced and contemporary curriculum," said the College’s interim dean, Joseph Martinelli, Ed.D. "We provide each student with an environment that is forward-thinking and kindhearted. Our dedicated faculty of skilled practitioners are working with our students every step of the way to ensure they succeed."

This summer was a true success story for counseling master's student, Kristina Simmonds, who received the American Psychology Association's (APA) Interdisciplinary Minority Fellowship (IMFP). The second Seton Hall graduate student to be awarded the prestigious APA fellowship, Simmonds received tuition support that will allow her to spend more time pursuing a career in mental and behavioral health. "This program has taught me so much about myself and others," said Simmonds. "I've learned how we communicate our needs to one another, and how to support people through that self-discovery process that leads to healing. This program has given me the tools I need to excel in my role as a crisis counselor."

Professor Katie Smith was the College’s Teacher of the Year for 2022.

As innovators in their fields, Seton Hall faculty are actively engaged in scholarship that is being shared at presentations and in peer-reviewed publications. Their many academic accomplishments are acknowledged with awards and research grants. Dr. Katie Smith's research is an example of the contributions College faculty are making in the field of education. 

Dr. Smith, who teaches in the College's higher education graduate programs, focuses her research on the college student experience, career development, and the varied financial and social influences on students' career exploration, opportunities, and post-graduate outcomes. As she explained, "I spend time almost every day trying to understand why and how we chose our paths. How and why, we decided to go to college. How we chose what to study and what jobs we entered." 

Recognized by Seton Hall's Office of the Provost as the College's Teacher of the Year for 2022, Professor Smith is part of a team of engaged faculty who help students prepare for careers that can make a difference.
