NJDOE Certification

Within one year of completing a program within the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media (CHDCM) that qualifies you for certification through the NJ Department of Education (NJDOE), the Office of Fieldwork & Certification can submit your nomination through the NJEdCert online system. In this case, you will not need to initiate a certification nomination through NJEdCert. Please follow the instructions below to request your nomination.

If more than one year has passed since you completed your program, please see the information at the end of this page, as your application process will be different.

Application Process for NJDOE Certification

Part I: Request nomination for your certification

  1. During the designated application period, complete Seton Hall’s internal Nomination Request Form for NJDOE Certificates. You will receive the form link in an email from the office of Fieldwork & Certification prior to your graduation. Be sure to upload any required documentation (e.g. Praxis score report) and include a personal email address (NOT your SHU email).
      1.  Application period:

May 1-31 for May graduates

August 1-31 for August graduates

December 1-31 for December graduates

  1. Once your final grades have posted on your transcript for your courses AND the Registrar marks you as graduated on your final transcripts, then the OFC can submit your application for NJDOE certification to the state if you have met all requirements. The OFC cannot submit any applications until your grades are posted and you are graduated by the Registrar.
  2. Once your nomination is submitted through NJEdCert, you will receive an email from the NJDOE to claim your certificate.

You can review eligibility requirements by certification type here.

Part II: Retrieve your certificate once your nomination has been submitted

  1. Please check your email you gave on your application and check your SPAM/JUNK folder for an email that will come from [email protected] on behalf of NJDOE Certification <[email protected]>.  You may want to add these emails to your safe sender list. The email you receive will list the endorsements for NJDOE certification that you are being recommended for.
  2. The email will prompt you to set up an account with the NJEdCert system, if you do not already have one.
    1. If you don't yet have an account, you must use the same email address you included on your internal certification application, as this is the one we will use when nominating you for your certification.
    2. If you already have an account through NJEdCert, then you can log in using the email you have on file (please remember that your application to us must include the same email address that matches your NJEdCert account).
    3. Please follow the instructionsto complete the remainder of your application online.  You must complete this step to proceed with getting your certification.

3. The NJEdCert system allows applicants to pay the State directly.

    1. Fee Holiday Information: All certification and credentialing fees are waived for the period beginning July 1, 2023, and ending June 30, 2024. Please follow the instructions here during the Fee Holiday period.

4. Once you click Submit, the NJDOE should automatically provide access to
your NJDOE certication electronically (unless they require any
additional information). You should be able to access your certicate shortly
after or within 48 hours of your online submission of your application.

5. To print your certification after it has been issued:

    1. Log into NJEdCert and go to My Certifications.
    2. Click the license ID number.
    3. In the right-hand corner, click View Printable View.
    4. Please note: It will not look like a traditional certificate, but rather a page with your certification details on it. If you have more than one certification, each will be listed separately.

The NJEdCert system only allows us to nominate you for certification. Therefore, if you experience any technical issues with the system (e.g., don't receive their emails, don't see your nomination, having difficulties with obtaining your certification, etc.) then you must reach out to technical support for the NJDOE:

    • Hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Phone: (609) 292-2070

Please allow ample wait time when contacting technical support.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions. We wish you success with the next steps in your professional journey!

Candidates Seeking Certification More than One Year After Program Completion

If applying for certification after the one-year nomination period, you will need to initiate the application through NJEdCert yourself. Please see the instructions and information here. Once you submit your application, OFC will receive a Verification of Program Completion (VOPC) form by email, which will allow us to verify the State-required information. Please note that eligibility is evaluated based on current requirements, even if they have changed since your program completion.
