Scholarships

In order to apply for any of these scholarships, you must apply to Seton Hall University. However, you may apply for the scholarship prior to notification of admission. The criteria listed below determines eligibility only and does not guarantee receipt of the scholarship.

Catholic High School Achievement Award

Deadline: January 15
Amount: $2,000, renewable
Eligibility: Awarded to select students who attend a Catholic High School and have exceptional high school academic records and extracurricular activities. Awards provided to a minimum of twenty students annually.
Application Process: No application required, automatically awarded to students annually in the late spring.

This scholarship, in the amount of $2,000 annually, is automatically awarded in the late spring to a select group of Catholic High School students who the most have exceptional academic and extracurricular records. This $2,000 award is renewable for three additional years for a total award of $8,000 as long as the student maintains a 2.5 GPA and earns at least 30 credits annually. There is no application required for this scholarship; the scholarship is automatically awarded to selected students.

Chicago Alumni Memorial Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,000, not renewable
Eligibility: Incoming freshman and incoming transfers who hold permanent residence in Illinois, have at least a 3.0 GPA and a 1170 SAT or 23 ACT. Preference is given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Application: Chicago Alumni Memorial Scholarship Application
Incoming freshman and incoming transfer students who hold permanent residence in Illinois, have at least a 3.0 GPA and an SAT composite two-score of 1170 or ACT composite score of 23. Preference is given to students who demonstrate financial need as demonstrated on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The completed application form and your application for admission must be received by the scholarship deadline. This scholarship is awarded for up to $1,000 and is not renewable.

Dan Barney Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: January 15
Amount: Up to $1,000, not renewable
Eligibility: Incoming freshmen and incoming transfers who hold permanent residence in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, North Dakota or South Dakota with at least a 3.0 GPA and a 1170 SAT or 23 ACT.

Joseph W. Cardinal Tobin Scholarship

Amount: $2,500, renewable
Eligibility: Pell-eligible, first-generation, incoming freshmen attending a Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of Newark
Application Process: No application required, automatically awarded to one eligible student annually in the late spring as long as the application for admission is submitted by the January 15 deadline.

The Joseph W. Cardinal Tobin Scholarship is a competitive scholarship awarded annually to one admitted incoming freshman who is a Pell-eligible, first-generation student who attended a Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of Newark.

This award was created to commemorate the Imposition of the Pallium of His Eminence Joseph William Cardinal Tobin, C.Ss.R., the Archbishop of Newark.

There is no application required for this scholarship; the scholarship is automatically awarded to an eligible student each year in the late spring. The recipient will be chosen by the Seton Hall admissions office based on financial need and academic performance. Award renewability is contingent upon meeting satisfactory academic progress requirements. This award can be combined with other awards but can only apply to tuition charges at Seton Hall.

Forensics, Speech and Debate Scholarship

Amount: $2,000 - $8,000, renewable
Eligibility: Incoming freshman and incoming transfers who will participate in Seton Hall's Brownson Speech and Debate Team and who display outstanding academic achievement and public speaking ability.

Available to incoming freshmen and transfer students who will participate in Seton Hall's Brownson Speech and Debate Team and who display outstanding academic achievement and public speaking ability. These renewable scholarships are awarded in the fall semester and range from $2,000 to $8,000. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA. The completed application form and your application for admission must be received by the scholarship deadline.

Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship

Amount: $6,500, renewable
Eligibility: Incoming freshman and incoming international freshmen who have outstanding academic records; have overcome economic or educational hardship and demonstrated a commitment to diversity and serving or working with socio-economically or educationally underserved communities.

Application: Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Application
Awarded in the fall semester to incoming freshmen and incoming international freshmen who have outstanding academic records; have overcome economic or educational hardship and demonstrated a commitment to diversity and serving or working with socio-economically or educationally underserved communities. This scholarship ranges from $6,500 to $8,500 and is renewable contingent upon maintaining a 2.5 GPA and actively participating in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Association. All recipients must address issues of equality and social justice through servant leadership and scholarship. The completed application form and your application for admission must be received by the scholarship deadline.

New Jersey Firefighters Scholarship

Amount: $3,000, renewable
Eligibility: Incoming freshman who are dependent children of career New Jersey firefighters who are FMBA members

Application: New Jersey Firefighters Scholarship Application
Incoming freshmen who are dependent children of career New Jersey firefighters who are FMBA members. These renewable $3,000 scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen who begin in the fall semester after their high school graduation. The completed scholarship application form and your application for admission must be received by the scholarship deadline.

NJ Stars II Scholarship Match

Deadline: ongoing
Amount: $2,500, renewable
Eligibility: Incoming transfers graduating from NJ STARS program and receiving NJ STARS II grant from NJ. Available in fall and spring.
Application Process: No application required, automatically awarded to eligible student.
Application: n/a
Seton Hall University offers special scholarships for NJ STARS graduates. New Jersey's Higher Education Student Assistance Authority offers NJ Stars participants the opportunity to continue on as STARS II students at private institutions with an additional grant of up to $2,500. Seton Hall will match this grant providing up to an additional $2,500 for incoming transfer students who were part of the NJ Stars program. This award will be in addition to the already generous scholarship and grant opportunities available to transfer students.

Pep Band Scholarship

Amount: Up to $2,500, renewable
Eligibility: Incoming freshman and incoming transfers who will participate in Seton Hall's Pep Band and who display outstanding academic achievement and musical talent.

Application: Pep Band Scholarship Application
Incoming freshmen and incoming transfer students who will participate in Seton Hall's Pep Band and who display outstanding academic achievement and musical talent. Scholarships are awarded according to instrumental need within the ensemble. These renewable $2,500 scholarships are awarded to students who begin in the fall semester. Students must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. The completed scholarship application form and your application for admission must be received by the scholarship deadline.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Amount: $2,000, renewable for one additional year
Eligibility: Incoming transfers and incoming international transfers who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Available in the fall and spring.
Application Process: No application required, automatically awarded to eligible student.
Application: n/a
Incoming transfers and incoming international transfer students who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The $2,000 scholarship is awarded automatically and no special application form is required; however the application for admission, along with proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership, is required.

Pirates Pitch

Deadline: October 18
Amount: Up to $2,000, renewable
Eligibility: Incoming freshmen and incoming international freshmen who win the Pirate's Pitch for High School Students competition sponsored by the Stillman School of Business.

Competition Entry: Pirates Pitch for High School Students
This scholarship is awarded as part of Pirates Pitch for High School Students, a competition sponsored by the Stillman School of Business. Seton Hall University offers high school students a contest to teach the basics of entrepreneurship and idea generation. The finalists selected to present their ideas are each awarded one of 10 renewable scholarships (up to $10,000 in total award) as well as one-time cash prizes of up to $2,500 to the top winners.

ROTC Scholarships

Scholarships are available to incoming freshmen and incoming transfer students pursuing a commission with the Army, Army Reserve or National Guard. Servant Leader Scholarship

Deadline: January 15
Amount: $2,400, renewable
Eligibility: Incoming freshmen and incoming transfers who display a competitive academic record and a record of exemplary service and leadership.

Open to students who display a competitive academic record and a record of exemplary service and leadership. Awards vary but average $2,400. Scholarship application and application for admission must be received by the scholarship deadline.

Seton Hall Bethany Scholarships

Deadline: This award is given on a first-come, first-served basis. Students should file the FAFSA and application for admission by November 15 for maximum consideration.
Amount: $2,000 annually, renewable (for a total of $8,000 over 4 years)
Eligibility: Incoming freshmen (fall applicants only) who have a FAFSA on file. This award is based on a combination of financial need and academic achievements.
Application Process: No application required, automatically awarded to eligible student as long as available funds remain
Application: n/a
This award is provided on a first-come, first-served basis to incoming freshmen who demonstrate financial need and have a proven record of academic achievement. Admitted students who have a FAFSA on file area automatically considered for this award based on availability of funds. Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress and file the FAFSA annually to maintain eligibility. This award can only be applied to tuition.

Seton Hall Hometown Scholarships

Deadline: January 15
Amount: $4,000 annually, renewable (for a total of $16,000 over 4 years)
Eligibility: Incoming freshmen (fall applicants only) who attend a high school or have a permanent address in Essex or Passaic County, New Jersey, for at least one year. Must be Pell eligible, have an unweighted minimum high school GPA of 3.6, submit an application for admission and FAFSA by January 15 and remain Pell eligible.

As a commitment to our mission of serving those in need and our local community, Seton Hall is offering this exciting award to honor those who live in or attend high school in the New Jersey counties where Seton Hall campuses are located. This $4,000 award is renewable for three additional years for a total award of $16,000. Transfer Scholarship

Amount: $5,000 - $18,000, renewable
Eligibility: Incoming transfers and incoming international transfers with a minimum of a 2.75 GPA. Available in fall and spring.
Application Process: No application required, automatically awarded to eligible student.
Application: n/a
Incoming transfer students who display a competitive academic record. Award ranges from $5,000 to $18,000. Students are automatically considered based on receipt of application for admission. Students are eligible for scholarships if they have a 2.5 GPA and enroll full-time at Seton Hall University. In order to remain eligible, students must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.

University Scholarship

Deadline: ongoing
Amount: $4,000 - $20,000, renewable
Eligibility: Incoming freshmen and incoming international freshmen based on your academic achievement in high school. Generally, the higher the academic profile, the higher the scholarship. Available in fall and spring.
Application Process: No application required, automatically awarded to eligible student.

Incoming freshmen who have excelled academically are considered for the University Scholarship. This scholarship is based on your academic achievement in high school including your grade point average and other factors. Generally, the higher the academic profile, the higher the scholarship. Students are automatically considered for this scholarship based on receipt of application for admission. If you are awarded a University Scholarship, notification will be sent along with your notification of admission. This scholarship is renewable and can only be applied to tuition. In order to remain eligible, students must maintain a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Upward Bound Scholarship

Amount: $3,000, renewable
Eligibility: Incoming freshman currently enrolled in a New Jersey Upward Bound program. Based on academic achievement. Must be Pell Grant eligible.

Application: Upward Bound Scholarship Application
This is a competitive scholarship awarded to New Jersey residents who are current participants of the New Jersey Upward Bound program. Students must have a strong academic record in high school and must be Pell Grant eligible in order to be considered for the award. The award is $3,000 annually and renewable if the student maintains satisfactory academic progress. The award can be combined with other awards and can be applied to tuition and fees but not room and board or books. Students must submit an application by the scholarship deadline date along with a letter of recommendation from an Upward Bound staff member, preferably the director.

Women's Guild Scholarship

Amount: Up to $5,000, renewable
Eligibility: Incoming freshmen and incoming transfers based on academic achievement. The scholarship supports both female and male students pursuing post-baccalaureate careers in medicine, dentistry, physician assistant and physical therapy.

Application: Woman's Guild Scholarship Application
The Woman's Guild Scholarship is a merit based award that can be used for a student's total cost of education. The scholarship range is $4,000 to $5,000 per year. The scholarship supports both male and female students pursuing post-baccalaureate careers in medicine, dentistry, physician assistant and physical therapy. To qualify, students must demonstrate academic excellence by having a minimum of a 3.8 GPA and 1300 SAT (28 ACT) score with 650 on either section, as well as, interest and involvement in the health profession of their choice, preferably with volunteer experience.Scholarships are renewable through a four-year period of full-time enrollment at the University, provided students maintain the required major, enrollment status, 3.0 GPA and demonstrate involvement (volunteer activity, research and/ or shadowing).
