M.S.S.L.P. Admission Requirements

Please note the GRE is not required for the 2022-2023 (Fall 2023) admissions cycle. Scores previously sent will not be used in reviewing an application.

The M.S.S.L.P. program welcomes your application and questions about the admissions process. All applications must be submitted through the Communication Science and Disorders Centralized Application Service (CSDCAS).

Deadline: February 1st is the application deadline.

Please Note:

  • Students with incomplete prerequisites (see below) may apply. However, they must state how they will satisfy the prerequisites prior to the start of the program.
  • All undergraduate prerequisite courses must be completed no longer than 10 years prior to the application date.

M.S.S.L.P. Admission Requirements and Prerequisites:

  • Completion of the Seton Hall University M.S.S.L.P program application through CSDCAS.
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
  • Cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.2 on a 4-point scale
  • Three letters of recommendation, preferably from academic and/or clinical/fieldwork professors and supervisors
  • 25 hours of observation with an ASHA Certified Speech-Language Pathologist (CCC-SLP) These observation hours can be accrued during in-person and/or virtual sessions and will meet this requirement as long as the sessions are supervised and appropriate documentation is made available. 
  • Maximum 1,000-word personal statement
  • If English is not the native language, a student must submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Score Report documenting a paper-based score of 550 or above, a computer-based score of 213 or above, or an internet-based score of 79 or above.
  • All students must read, sign, understand and meet the Standards of Essential Functions of the School of Health and Medical Sciences and the M.S.S.L.P. program (PDF).
  • Completion of each of the following pre-requisite courses with a grade of "C" or better:
  1. One English composition course
  2. One statistics course
  3. One course in a social or behavioral science (typically these include courses in psychology, sociology or cultural anthropology)
  4. One course in biological science (typically a course in biology, human anatomy and physiology, neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, human genetics, veterinary science)
  5. One course in physical science (must be a course in physics or chemistry)
  • Pre-professional coursework:*
  1. Introduction to Communication Disorders (3 credits)
  2. Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Swallowing Mechanism (3 credits)
  3. Hearing and Speech Science (3 credits)
  4. Language Development (3 credits)
  5. Phonetics (3 credits)
  6. Audiology (3 credits)

*About required pre-professional coursework (1-6 above):

  • For applicants with an undergraduate major other than speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders, completion of the above six pre-professional courses with a grade of "B" or better is required.
  • For applicants with an undergraduate major in speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders, the content of undergraduate coursework must be equivalent to the six courses listed above, with a grade of "B" or better.
