AP vs. Dual Enrollment

One of the most frequent questions that we receive is: "What is the difference between AP credits and Dual Enrollment?" This is a great question! The answer is rather simple: one assesses you through a test, the other through your class performance. The grade that you receive in your high school is the one that will be on your transcript through Seton Hall University.

Here are some things to keep in mind when making your decision:

  1. What kind of student are you? Are you one that performs better on tests, or in the class itself? Do you test well in English, but not in Calculus? These are the important factors to keep in mind when customizing opportunities for yourself.
  2. What AP scores will your college/university of choice accept? Will they only take a 5 in particular subjects? Can you score a 5 on that test? Do they accept AP or Dual Enrollment at all?
  3. You can always do the AP Test and participate in Dual Enrollment for the same class! You should call the Registrar at the college or university of your choice to see what their policy is on this, but the opportunity is still there!

The purpose of AP credits and Dual Enrollment is to make the most out of your education. Take advantage of what will give you the greatest advantage!
