Isabel Finan

Nursing major

Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey

"It's really amazing to have this program that is backed up with amazing deans and professors who are really there to enhance the college experience for us in ways to help us grow."

Isabel FinanIsabel Finan is a Pirate through and through. She has grown up in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, with many of her family members being alumni and employees at Seton Hall. She recalls her excitement at receiving a Seton Hall cheerleading outfit and pom-poms for Christmas when she was only six years old. "Seton Hall has always been a big part of my family and I have always felt that it was like a home to me."

Isabel realized she wanted to be a nurse at a young age. "I chose nursing because I've always known that I've wanted to do something involving caring for others." When she was eleven she began volunteering at Camp New Day, a camp for adults with developmental disabilities. It was where she was first able to gain hands-on experience of the responsibilities of caring for someone. One woman made this experience particularly impactful. "I had the privilege to take care of a woman who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy. It was a combination of the medical factors that I had to take care of also while maintaining this personal connection and being a source of companionship that made me want to look more into nursing." Seton Hall's competitive and prestigious nursing program is another factor in what lured Isabel to the university.

Isabel has always considered herself a strong-willed, natural born leader. Through some of her experiences, she has been able to harness these skills, but she also recognizes the amazing benefits the Leadership Program has to offer. Isabel sees this program as a way to hone the skills she already has and better herself.

Being involved in service leadership and volunteering in the past, Isabel hopes to continue on this path, as well as join more on-campus clubs and activities to further her involvement in the community.
