Institute for Communication and Religion’s CORECast Series to Release Second Episode

Gregory Floyd

Gregory Floyd, Ph.D., CORE Fellow and Director of the Center for Catholic Studies, will be featured in the second episode of CORECast.

Seton Hall University's Institute for Communication and Religion (ICR) will release the second episode of its podcast series, CORECast, on January 22 at 8:00 a.m. on PodBean and 89.5 FM WSOU, Seton Hall's nationally ranked radio station. The series is designed to introduce Core texts from Western history to students and other beginners.

This new episode will feature Gregory Floyd, Ph.D., CORE Fellow and Director of the Center for Catholic Studies, with Joseph Brennan, a freshman studying Diplomacy and International Relations. Brennan is a member of the Honors program and the Buccino Leadership Institute.

Together, they will discuss one of the most famous works of ancient Greek philosophy, Plato's Allegory of the Cave. The first episode features Giselle Pineda '22 and Dr. KC Choi, former Chair of Seton Hall's Department of Religion as they explore the Parable of the Good Samaritan. The series is hosted by Bernie Wagenblast '78, a Seton Hall Communication alum.

"One major difference with this episode is that it's not focused on religious content," Jon Radwan, Ph.D., Director of the Institute for Communication and Religion, said. "We're a Catholic institution, so we launched our CORECast series with a Biblical text. Now, in episode two, we're learning from Plato, whose Allegory of the Cave explains the journey from ignorance to enlightenment. Together, the Judeo-Christian religious and Greek philosophical traditions make up the central foundations for Western culture."

Radwan, who also serves as an associate professor in the College of Communication and the Arts, added that CORECast will reach a broader audience through this philosophical text. Be sure to engage with both available episodes and keep a look out for more CORECast and other ICR podcast content on the horizon!
