Peace Corps Coverdell Fellows Program

The Paul D. Coverdell Fellows Program is a graduate fellowship program that offers financial assistance to returned Peace Corps Volunteers. All Fellows complete internships in underserved American communities while completing their Master's degree in Diplomacy and International Relations, allowing them to bring home, and expand upon, the skills they learned as Volunteers.

Benefits

Fellows selected for the program will receive a scholarship of up to six credits per semester, and up to 12 credits per year. The School's $75 graduate program application fee is waived for Coverdell Fellow applicants.

Courtney Smith

“The Coverdell Fellows Program is a natural fit for us. Both the Peace Corps and the School of Diplomacy recognize the importance of leadership development in an international setting. Both the Peace Corps and the School of Diplomacy understand that we are called to share knowledge and resources to make a difference in the lives of others.”

Courtney Smith
Acting Dean, School of Diplomacy and International Relations

Field Practicum Requirement

Fellows will support the Peace Corps third goal, "to help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans," by completing a required internship through the School's partnership with local service communities. Placements include positions with the American Red Cross of Essex County and the International Rescue Committee in Elizabeth, NJ, among others. Fellows are welcome to research additional sites that may be more applicable to their career aspirations. The School's dedicated Office of Internships and Career Development is available to provide advisement and resources to assist Fellows in identifying and selecting an internship site.

Apply

In order to be considered for a Coverdell fellowship, applicants must apply for fall admission to the M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations program by May 1. The application process is outlined here »
