Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) Certification Program

Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification Program teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth. This 6-hour training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to children and adolescents (ages 6-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

This course is offered online. First Aiders will complete a 2-hour, self-paced online class prior to the online session. Then the First Aiders will participate in a 6-hour instructor-led synchronous videoconference.

Open to undergraduate and graduate nursing students, plus any students from Seton Hall’s general population, such as education or social work students.

Participants who successfully complete the program and pass the end of course examination are issued a nationally recognized certification as a Youth Mental Health First Aider conferred by Mental Health First Aide (MHFA) USA.

Course limited to 30 students.
