Degree Candidates Accommodation Requests
Degree candidates who require accommodations due to a disability should submit their requests online using the 2013 Commencement Ceremony Accommodation Request form. If you need assistance completing this form or have any questions, please contact Disability Support Services at (973) 313-6003 or by email at DSS@shu.edu.
We encourage students or guests who need accommodations, including interpreter services, to notify the Office of Disability Support Services at (973) 313-6003 at least two weeks in advance of the event.
Baccalaureate Commencement Ceremony
East Rutherford, NJ
Accessible parking is available on the ground floor of the parking deck in Deck 23 adjacent to the IZOD Center; these spaces require state-issued handicapped plates or placards. Limited accessible parking is also available in lots 21 and 22. IZOD Center parking attendants will be directing traffic and will direct those requiring accessible parking
Accessible seating is available for guests in the rear of sections 105 through 125, accessible by gates A or D. Please note, accessible seating is limited to two (2) guests for each degree candidate: one (1) seat for each guest that uses a wheelchair and one (1) companion seat. Larger parties are asked to sit in the row(s) in front of the area reserved for wheelchair access.
Wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility devices will not be provided by the University. Guests with mobility impairments who do not have access to a wheelchair may request a wheelchair transport to their seat location. Guests who require a wheelchair escort should enter the arena through the Box Office Lobby and proceed to the turnstile near the elevator and speak with a Guest Services Representative. Please note that neither the wheelchair nor the escort can stay with the guest during the event.
Accessible restrooms are located on the concourse behind Sections 101 and 115, the Lower Lobby, and the Winner’s Club. There is also a Family Restroom located near the elevator in the Lower Lobby. Please speak with an IZOD Center Guest Services representative should you need to use the Family Restroom.
Guests with Service Animals
Trained service animals assisting guests with disabilities are allowed inside the IZOD Center. All other animals are prohibited.
College of Nursing Convocation, Graduation Commencement and Hooding Ceremony
Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart
On-street parking is available on all surrounding streets. Parking lots are located at the north end of the Cathedral and across Clifton Avenue in the Archdiocesan Center. There is one accessible parking spot on Ridge street by the ramp and two accessible parking spots at the Archdiocesan Center. State-issued accessible parking placards or license plates must be prominently displayed to park in these spaces. Please arrive early, as spots are limited.
A ramped entrance is located on Ridge Street. If you are standing in front of the church the ramp is on the right hand side.
Wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility devices will not be provided by the University.

Accessible seating will be available in all graduation venues. Individuals should bring their own or rented wheel chairs or walkers, if they have limited mobility. Wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility devices will not be provided by the University.
